With 215 tilt-up panels, 6,500 cubic yards of concrete, and 480 tons of grade 80 EWWR mats, the Urban Outfitters warehouse is truly a concrete work of art! Aside from its sheer size and scope, it has many unique and specialized aspects, one of which is the massive URBN logo displayed on its exterior. The logo was constructed by casting (8 total) 12 foot square letters into the corner tower panels. Another distinctive feature of the building is the rustic finish on the bottom 10 feet of each panel. This was created by pouring 28,000 square feet of the panels on top of rough, knotty, ½ inch thick, CDX plywood. In addition, the building includes 40,000 L.F., 4 inch reveals. This was extremely challenging, as the reveals were parallel to one another and in close proximity. Any deviation in height/uniformity would have been very noticeable. Stief Concrete also constructed three stair towers and one elevator shaft out of tilt-up panels. Yet another notable fact: a 300 ton crawler crane was used to erect the panels, and 70% of them were erected from on the slab on grade, due to site restrictions around the perimeter of the building.
